When did we forget to love ourselves?
In today’s world our perspectives are severely warped. We’re
addicted more to self-gratification than our phones. We prefer a strong Wifi
connection over a human one. We check statuses and share selfies in less time
than it takes to say the ABC’s. It reflects how we follow the status quo like a
cat chasing a laser. Erratic and thoughtless, it’s not hard to wonder why we
find ourselves wondering what we’re even doing.
We’re social creatures; we need to make connections socially
to maintain a healthy mindset. And when we deny ourselves something as
necessary as genuine connections, we hurt ourselves. Human interaction is just
as necessary as food and water. So when all we have is a funneled down version that’s
distorted – what’s left to be expected.
It’s easy to see how much our self-awareness has shattered. It’s
crazy to see people equal their self-worth to something as temporary as Instagram
likes. It doesn’t measure how many people like you, it measures how many people
physically clicked the heart (not why). Though social media is a great and
phenomenal tool, it’s turned into a tool for hate. We compare people not only
to each other but to ourselves and tear the latter apart. Looking at images of
slender bodies, flawless complexions and active lifestyles, people everywhere
are chasing that one photo. From social trends like the Kylie Genner Lip
Challenge to circulating Fat Shaming videos, there’s a loss of humanity. The
only way to fix the problem is to start with you.
Get a better lifestyle by being a better you. Stop doing
things out a vain or for the selfie. Learn what makes you happy and build upon
it. Create memories you’re too busy having to think about a camera. Dress how
you want, listen to what you want and be who you are without having to hurt
yourself in the process.Learn to treat yourself right. Don’t know how to navigate your life in a healthy
manner? You’re not alone, let’s get you there together!
