Desk Styling
I put the pro in procrastinate. I get distracted easily. I can be shopping online, playing with highlighters or doodling away in my notebook. So when it finally comes to getting work done I need to be completely in the zone. When I sit down at my desk I want to have a clear mind so I can be productive.
To make your desk a better work environment it doesn’t take much. You don’t need to go $50 organizers when you can DIY it with a few simple steps.
1. Keep only the necessities on your desk
If it’s not needed for your project put it away so you have enough space to work with. If i’m working on business homework, I put the pad away on the shelf and place my text books in front of me. When the textbooks aren’t in use I put them on the shelf - not on my desk. If I have too many things on the desk I get overwhelmed. I wind up thinking about other deadlines and wind up disorganized.
2. Line everything up
I put my pens and supplies in jars against my wall so they don’t take up too much space. This simplistic approach eases my mind. Instead of having an overload of writing utensils all mushed together I separate them. Markers in one jar, pens in another.
3. Personalize
Along with my necessities are some things that make you feel good. I placed flowers I got from the dollar store in a glass. I originally was using it for jewelry but it balances out the dark colors of the desk. I always try to have a candle as well. It’s soothing and smells delicious so I can keep on working and not overly stressed.
Tips to organize
- mason jars are great to hold anything from pens to cotton balls. If you don’t feel like spending money on them, an empty pickle jar works fine. Post it notes are great but you don’t want to be buried under them. I used an old jewelry case from Home goods and take the notes inside. It’s super cute and functional - perfect for my desk.
- I used the top of a shoe box as an organizer by putting my glasses, erasers and note pad inside. If you tend to hold onto junk, place something else inside of it. I used the glass vase. Limited space means keeping only the necessities.
- Don’t leave loose paper around. Buying a book holder can eliminate clutter and help eliminate the useless pieces.
